When the Lord Jesus’ disciples asked Him for signs of His coming and the end of the world, He used the parable of the fig tree to teach that these events would take place within a generation. This generation is the one that sees the fig tree sprouting (Matthew 24:32-34).

Matthew 24:3; 32-35

3 And as He sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of Thy coming and of the end of the world?”

32 “Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When his branch is yet tender and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh.

33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34 Verily I say unto you, this generation shall not pass till all these things be fulfilled.

35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Words shall not pass away.

The fig tree in the Lord’s parable represents the nation of Israel, which God restored in the Promised Land of Canaan during the last days. This was the physical revival of the nation of Israel. The budding of the fig tree symbolized the complete possession of the holy city of Jerusalem by the Israelites, after the re-establishment of the nation, in preparation for the spiritual resurrection of the nation of Israel.

The prophecy in Ezekiel chapter 37 speaks of God’s resurrection of the nation of Israel, which was split into two phases:

  • During the period of physical resurrection, the nation of Israel was re-established in the Promised Land of Canaan: “And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above; but there was no breath in them.” (Ezekiel 37:8).

  • During the period of spiritual resurrection, all people of Israel received the Holy Spirit, sincerely repented, returned to worshipping God, and prepared for war, as described in Ezekiel 38-39: “So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.” (Ezekiel 37:10).

The Israelites lost their sovereignty over the Promised Land of Canaan in 587 BCE, when Jerusalem fell to the armies of the Babylonian Empire. In 536 BCE, King Cyrus of the Persian Empire allowed the Israelites to return to and rebuild Jerusalem with assistance, but they were not re-established as a nation. It was not until May 14, 1948, more than 2,500 years later, that Israel was officially re-established as an independent and sovereign nation in the Promised Land of Canaan. This was when the fig tree of Israel was planted again in the Promised Land. However, they still did not have complete sovereignty over the holy city of Jerusalem, as East Jerusalem was under the rule of the Arab kingdom of Jordan, at the time.

In June 1967, an Arab coalition consisting of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria, with support from other countries such as the Soviet Union, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the German Democratic Republic, and Algeria, planned to actack Israel with the aim of sweeping the Israelites into the sea. However, Israel fought back fiercely and was victorious in just six days, which became known as the “Six-Day War”. On June 7, 1967, the Israeli army gained complete control of Jerusalem, and on June 28, 1967, Israel proclaimed the unification of east and west Jerusalem. This was when the fig tree of Israel, after being replanted in the Promised Land, began to sprout.

Therefore, the generation of humans born on June 7, 1967 will not pass away before the Apocalypse and Christ’s return to the earth.

The noun “generation” (γενεά – G1074) describes people who were born and living in the same time period. Matthew 24:34 implies that those who were born at the time of Israel’s complete domination of Jerusalem will not pass away before the end of the world and Christ’s return to the earth.

Psalm 90 states that the average human life is approximately 70-80 years:

The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off and we fly away.” (Psalm 90:10).

Those born on June 7, 1967 are known as the “fig tree generation”. It is believed that before the time this generation reaches the end of their lifespan, the end of the world will occur and Christ will return to Earth. This would mean that the end of the world and Christ’s return to Earth would occur before June 2037 or, at the latest, June 2047.

The Apocalypse is said to last for seven years, and God will reclaim the Church from the world before the end of time. Assuming God reclaims the Church just before the Apocalypse, this would have to happen before June 2030 or, at the latest June 2040. This means that from January 1st, 2023, the reclaimation of the Church will occur within a period of seven to seventeen years. Ultimately, the Lord’s reclaiming of the Church can happen at any time.

However, the Apocalypse may come sooner, right after the Lord has spiritually regenerated the Israelites.

God’s spiritual rebirth of the Israelites is likely to occur on the The Feast of First Fruits of the year 2027. Hosea’s prophecy refers to the Lord punishing the people of Israel for two days. On the third day, He will raise them up, and they will live with Him.

Come, and let us return unto the LORD; for He hath torn, and He will heal us; He hath smitten, and He will bind us up. After two days will He revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight.” (Hosea 6:1-2).

To the Lord, a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day (II Peter 3:8). God punished the Israelites for almost two thousand years, because they rejected Christ, handing Him over to Roman soldiers for crucifixion on the day of the Passover of the year 27. As of the Passover day of 2027, that would be exactly 2,000 years, the full two days prophesied in Hosea 6:2. Therefore, it is highly likely that God will revive the spirituality of the Israelites on the Feast of the First Fruits on April 22, 2027. It is possible that God also chose 144,000 people from the 12 tribes of Israel on that day to initiate the end of the world. If so, the Church would have been reclaimed beforehand. The period from January 1, 2023 to the Feast of the First Fruits in 2027 is four years, three months, and three weeks.

As we look back on events in history, we can see that Biblical prophecies have been gradually fulfilled. Biblical prophecies are the pre-written history of the nation of Israel. God used the Israelites as a guide for His plans with mankind. Based on the events that happened to the Israelites, we know the time of the Apocalypse.

  • Year 587 BCE: The Babylonian Empire destroyed the Kingdom of Judah (II Kings 24 and 25). On July 29, 587 BCE, King Nebuchadnezzar of the Babylonian Empire destroyed Jerusalem and the First Temple.

  • Year 536 BCE: King Cyrus of the Persian Kingdom, (modern-day Iran), invaded Babylon and issued an edict allowing the Israelites to return, rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, and reconstruct the Temple. This ended the 70-year exile of Judah in Babylon (606 BCE – 536 BCE): “Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and put it also in writing, saying, “Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia: All the kingdoms of the earth hath the LORD God of heaven given me; and He hath charged me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all His people? The LORD his God be with him, and let him go up.” [Jerusalem].” (II Chronicles 36:22-23). A total of 49,897 Israelites returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple (Ezra 2).

  • Year 457 BCE: King Artaxerxes issued a decree for the restoration and rebuilding of Jerusalem, the exact date of which is unknown. However, the date on which it was executed by Ezra is known to be January 1, the seventh year of King Artaxerxes’ reign, on September 14, 457 BCE (Ezra 7:9). In the days of Ezra and Nehemiah, the reigns of the Persian kings were counted by the Israelites according to their civil calendar, meaning a year of the king’s rule starting from the beginning of July (the month of Tishrei) and ending at the end of June (the month of Elul). The edict was most likely issued around early April 457 BC, during Passover. Ezra took more than five months to prepare human and financial resources for the trip from Babylon to Jerusalem, as recorded in Ezra chapter 8.

According to Daniel 9:24-26, the Lord Jesus Christ would be slain at the end of the 69th week of the 70 week-of-years God appointed for Israel, from the day King Artaxerxes issued a decree for Ezra.

Each week-of-year has seven years: “Seventy weeks are determined concerning thy people and concerning thy holy city to finish the transgression and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy. Know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem until the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks and threescore and two weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. And the end thereof shall be with a flood, and until the end of the war desolations are determined.” (Daniel 9:24-26).

Messiah the Prince is the Lord Jesus Christ. Seven weeks and sixty-two weeks make sixty-nine weeks, which is 483 years. From 457 BCE to 27 CE is exactly 483 years! (To calculate, add 457 + 27 to get 484, then subtract 1 to get 483, since there is no year 0 between 1 BCE and 1 CE). The Lord Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem as a king in the early spring of the year 27, 483 years since King Artaxerxes issued the decree. This simultaneously fulfilled the prophecy that the angel Gabriel had given to Daniel 565 years earlier, as well as the prophecy of the Prophet Zechariah recorded in the book of Zechariah about 520 years earlier (Daniel 9:25; Zechariah 9:9).

  • Year 7 BCE: Acording to the Hebrew Calendar, the Lord Jesus Christ was likely born on the night of the 15th month of Tishrei (July) 3755, the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:34). This feast was to commemorate the Israelites who had to stay in tents when God delivered them out of Egypt (Leviticus 23:42-43). However, one of the spiritual meanings of the Feast of Tabernacles is that it foreshadows the incarnation of God the Word, who, as the Bible states, “camped among us” to deliver humanity from slavery and the consequences of sin: “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14).

The Lord Jesus must have been born at least three years before King Herod died. When King Herod was informed of Jesus’ birth by the wise men, He was estimated to be about two years old. As a result, King Herod ordered the killing of boys as young as two years old. Approximately a year later, in 4 BCE, King Herod died.

  • Year 27: The Lord Jesus Christ was crucified and died to atone for mankind’s sins at approximately 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nisan 14, 3787 (Wednesday, April 9, 27). His body was laid to rest exactly three days and three nights before His resurrection, before sunset on Saturday (the Sabbath), fulfilling His own prophecy: “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” (Matthew 12:40 compare Jonah 1:17).

  • Year 2027: On the Passover day of 2027, the entire 2,000 years of punishment for Israel’s rejection of Christ will be completed. The First Fruits Feast of the Year 2027, the day after Passover, will be the opportune time for God to regenerate Israel spiritually.

We look forward to the fulfillment of the prophecy in Hosea 6:1-2, which may occur on the Feast of the First Fruits in 2027. We also anticipate Christ’s return to reclaim the Church from the world. With everything ready for Christ’s arrival to the Church, only one last element remains: the addition of enough Gentiles to the Church (Romans 11:25).

It is certain that no one knows when the Lord will come to reclaim the Church, or when the Apocalypse will begin. However, God’s people can discern the timing of these events. We are in that period.

So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.” (Matthew 24:33).

What we need to do is:

Therefore be ye also ready, for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh.” (Matthew 24:44).

Starting from the first day of this new year 2023, let us encourage each other even more to be faithful, to live in a way that pleases the Lord, and to be prepare for the coming of Christ.

Let us hold fast to the profession of our faith without wavering for He is faithful who promised, and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as ye see the Day approaching.” (Hebrew 10:23-25).

May the Word of God sanctify and strengthen us. Let us all keep our faith and be faithful to the Lord until the day of Christ’ return. May the love, grace, and fellowship of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you. Amen!
